Like Father Like Son

I knew it would happen, but I didn't think it would be so soon. The boy's got his eyes (and hands) on the remote already! He's also VERY close to sitting up by himself. Just needs a little support every now and again to keep from falling over.

Wascally Wabbit

This past week Austin moved on from peas to carrots in his solid foods repertoire. Brenna got in on the action and helped feed him. From her perspective, it takes faux-velvet dress with a fancy skirt and opening your mouth wide to get him to eat. Whatever works I guess. Next up: green beans.
Help! They're making me wear pink bibs with flowers and butterflies.
Send bibs like this with trucks and trains stat! ;)

We Went Out Last Night

Last night Brent and I treated ourselves to some time with each other. Brent took the day off, I worked a half day and Holly, Brenna's teacher, watched the kids for us. We had an early dinner at Red River Steakhouse where we enjoyed delicious prime rib, sauteed mushrooms and creamed spinach. Then we headed over to Rio Tinto Stadium where we saw Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert and Kenny Chesney in concert. It was a bit hot until the sun went down, but the great music and entertainment made up for the heat. This is the 3rd time we've seen Kenny Chesney in concert and he just keeps getting better and better.

Brent got us tickets in the Sandbar which put is within 5 feet of the stage. We had to stand the entire 5+ hours, but it was worth it to be that close. It was the first time I had been that close the to action of a concert, and it had been a while for Brent. He recalls being in the 5th row for Def Leppard back in the, yes I'll say it, 80's. Ugh, we're getting older, but we can still hold our own in a crowd of drunk, rowdy, Kenny-crazy girls. Yes, even in Utah with the watered-down Corona, the girls in their halter tops, jean skirts and cowboy boots managed to get their buzz on and act like fools. It was quite entertaining at times.

Back in February when we bought the tickets, they were heralded as my 40th birthday present, but as time went by they became our Mother's and Father's Day gifts. Brent felt like it was unfair for him to reap the rewards of my birthday gift, so he got me a beautiful pair of earrings in my birthstone that match a necklace he got me for Valentine's day last year. It's so awesome to have such a wonderful, giving husband. Thank you, honey, for taking us out for such a fun and entertaining evening.

There are more concert pics posted here. Only a few pictures show up on the home page, so click "view album" to see all of them.

More Disney Photos

I finally got a chance to upload the rest of the Disney photos. Yes, I am avoiding re-painting the 1/2 bath downstairs, so this weekend I caught up on all things photo. Well, not ALL things. There's still a photo book to make, I need to print out some pictures of Austin for my desk at work (it's like he doesn't even exist there), and I need to finish the photo albums for mine and Brent's baby pictures. Ah life, it never stops. So click here if you would like to see a small sampling of the over 500 photos we took on our trip.

Bounce It Baby!

If bouncy seat bouncing were part of the Olympics, Austin would definitely be a Gold Medal contender! For now, we'll just call him Tigger, 'cause bouncin' is what Tiggers do best!

Daddy, It's Gonna Cost You

I think our resident princess found a pea in Daddy's ez-chair, and took it upon herself to extricate it using her high-tech tools. When she tried to get payment for services rendered, he told her she hadn't given him a written estimate up front, and he didn't owe her a thing. Oh, princess, you have a lot to learn!

Just Hanging Around

In addition to spanning the monkey bars without assistance, hanging upside down from the monkey bars was next on Brenna's list of things to do in 2009. Check - done! What's next? Who knows and Heaven help us!

Who's that baby in the mirror?

Austin has discovered the baby in the mirror, and he thinks he's adorable. The one thing he can't figure out and doesn't quite like is that Mommy is holding that OTHER baby. One day he'll make the connection, but for now he'll just have to be a little jealous.

You're handsome and funny. I like you!

Monkey Girl

Last summer we had to hold her up to make it across the monkey bars. This summer she's going across them like it's nothing. Amazing!

Austin's Blog - Sweet Potatoes

I haven't been blogging much lately. I've been busy going to daycare, eating, sleeping and growing, but I had to chime in on this latest development in my life. It's called sweet potatoes. Now I'm no expert, but according to my Rachel Ray Baby Cookbook, there should be marshmallows involved. I wouldn't object to a little brown sugar and butter either!

See, it says right here on the package, "Marshmallows are the perfect compliment to Gerber 1st Foods Sweet Potatoes". Come on Mommy, don't be so old school. Lose the rice cereal and bring on the sweet sticky stuff!

Summers Off

My friend, Stephanie, (who moved Denver and abandoned me) told me this story today. I have to blog about it, because it made me laugh. She and her husband, Preston, took their son, Connor, to check out a summer camp at a local church in Littleton. After finding out about the activities, Stephanie asked if they did any kind of Bible study. The person giving them the tour said, "Oh Heavens no, it's summertime." Stephanie said to me, "I guess God takes summers off!" Well that explains why it's so damn hot in Texas in the summer!

She wants out!

Brenna: "Mommy, I don't want to be part of this family anymore."
Mommy (after taking calming breaths): "Why don't you want to be part of our family?"
Brenna: "Because we don't have a piano."

You can imagine my relief when she didn't say something like "because I don't love you anymore" or "because you ruined my life by bringing Austin into it". Okay, here's the back story to make this all make sense. Last Friday we went to Alex and Ayden's house for a play date. They have a piano in their basement, and Brenna enjoyed "playing" it. Apparently in Brenna's 5-year-old mind, having a piano is nirvana. She asked Brent why we don't have a piano. He told her it was because she had so many toys that there wasn't room for one. She just looked at him like he'd just grown horns on the top of his head.
