8 Weeks Old

Hey, where's the milk?

Eight weeks has found Austin sleeping a little better and settling into more of a "routine". You can expect that at some point he will eat, sleep and poop. It's the order of things that is the question. He is still managing to sleep around 4 hours when we put him down at night for the first time. After that, it's about 2 to 2.5 hours at a stretch until morning. He likes to get up around 6:30 or 7:00, have his morning milk and go back to sleep for a couple of hours. Nights are still a little tricky. He likes to pack in the calories at night which means he and Mommy are attached at the well umm you know. We also think the non-stop evening nursing is a soothing thing.

We were surprised one night this week when he fell asleep on his own in his crib to the lullaby of the mobile. Mommy put him down to help Brenna with something and when she went to check on him, he was sound asleep. Miraculous! Will it become habit? Who knows?

He has discovered his fingers and can regularly be heard smacking on his fist. He can't quite get it in his mouth nor can he single out a thumb or finger to suck on, so he mostly ends up with drippy hands and a drooly chin. But hey, if it makes him happy, who are we to judge?

Austin has found much solace in the his swing this past week. He takes at least one good nap in the swing much to Mommy's delight. The picture below was supposed to show his slumber in the swing, but as soon as the motion stopped, he woke up. Instead we'll call it "portrait of a poopy face"!

One thing Mommy learned this week is if the baby is sleeping, don't move him. Forget about trying to get him to sleep in his crib during the day and leave it to the professionals at daycare in May. Napping in the bouncy seat? Let him sleep. Napping in the swing? Let him sleep! For goodness sake, let him sleep!
