The Good, The Bad & The Ugly Part 2

So do you want the good news or the bad news?

Well, here's the bad news: While the new counters were being installed, the installer dropped a piece of the counter on our cook top ruining it. At first I was heart sick. I really liked the layout of the old cook top.

And now for the good news: It turned out to be a win-win situation. The installers insurance paid for a replacement cook top, and I don't have to live with the terrible combination of the old cook top and the new counters. I would have hated seeing that combination day in and day out.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly Part 1

Starting backwards on the title, here's the ugly. Teal green Formica counters, a horrible white sink with a leaky faucet and out-dated white appliances. What sold us on this house was the layout of the kitchen and family room, and the potential to make it our own.

Spooning Up Success

It's so funny what you learn the second time around. At this age, we never would have considered putting an entire container of yogurt in front of Brenna, giving her a spoon, and saying have at it. Austin is definitely showing us how it should be done.

First, you put the spoon in the yogurt container and get as much on it as possible.

Then you open wide and pray it all makes it to your mouth.

And of course it does, because you're a pro at this eating with a spoon thing.

When it's all said and one, you give Mommy your best "see I am a big boy" grin, and her heart melts just a little bit more. Who, after all, could resist that dimple... and those eyes... and that hair... and those two adorable teeth?

A Room for the Princess of Pink

Brenna's reward for being good in Utah while Daddy was already in Texas working was her choice of wall color for her new room. I know you'll be shocked to find out that the color choice was pink. The one thing that did surprise me was the choice of polka dot bedding. I thought for sure we were going to end up with a sea of different shades of pink with a token smattering of purple. We hoodwinked Grammie (and later Grandpa) into painting Brenna's room when they visited us for the first time.

Here's the painter extraordinaire...

...and her "helper". This part of the wall had to be smoothed out a little when the "helper" was taking a union break. You know juice boxes, Goldfish and Hannah Montana.

This was the first attempt at putting dots on the walls. We lived with it for a little while and then decided to order more dots of different colors. We also decided that random dots on the walls just weren't orderly enough (at least for Mommy).

And here's where we ended up...with flowers. Brenna chose the color scheme for each flower, and Mommy stuck them on the wall.

Even the Barbies approve! They had a hot tub party to celebrate. Strange, I don't see Ken in this picture. I guess he thought all the pink and flowers were too girly for him. He can wear a pink tux, but he can't handle a girl party. I think I'm a little worried about him.

And the result is a room fit for the Princess of Pink!

More Firsts from 1st Grade Part II

Here is Brenna's first bad school picture. I'm sure it is the first of many to come. I was just hoping to put it off for a few years. Something like at least until Junior High when she gets braces and pimples. Oh well, there's always next year.

I just hope my friend Stephanie's Mom doesn't see this picture. Her comment would be "Her mother must be so proud." It's what she says about all kids who aren't so cute. I'm just kidding Brenna. You're still cute...just not so much in this picture.

And yes, hard copies will be arriving in your mail boxes, and I expect to see them proudly displayed the next time we visit.
