Witch Crafty

Now this is my kind of witch craft! Egg carton cups painted black with pipe cleaner legs. Simple and cheap. Okay, so the spider web not so cheap, but worth it. It will live to see another Halloween, so the ROI should be good.

Brenna really enjoyed assembling all the different characters and gluing them onto a cardboard ring to make the wreath. Thank you Michael's for for selling the kits!

Happy Halloween Ya'll

Our first Halloween back in Texas was a howling success! Brenna and Austin along with 3 friends, Jordan, Brady and Logan Trick or Treated all over the neighborhood and came back with treats of all kinds.

The Halloween Gang: Logan, Jordan, Brenna and Brady
These kids took on Halloween and I'm pretty sure they were the victors!

It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Super Austin!
I'm so proud of the little guy for wearing his costume and hanging with the big kids.
He's working on more teeth and was a grumpy Gus all weekend. He was all smiles tonight.
Who can cry when his mouth is full of candy?

Our Southern Belle striking a pose.
Earlier in the month, when people asked Brenna what she was going to be for Halloween, she kept saying a "Southern Babe". I kept saying to myself, "Oh Brenna, that's a totally different costume!"

Radio Flyer Wagon - It's the only way to Trick or Treat!
When the kids put their buckets in the wagon because they were too heavy,
Austin raided their booty. He's no dummy.

Took Us Out to the Ballgame

On September 9th, we were treated to an Astros' Game by Kathy and Tom King. Kathy is my step-mother's cousin. I'm not sure what that makes us in the grand "family tree" scheme of things, but we consider them family and that is all that really matters.

Now thank goodness the stadium roof was closed and the blessed air conditioning was on, because at that point we were not acclimated to the Houston humidity what-so-ever. I'm not sure we're acclimated now, but I don't find myself with a dripping nape quite as often.

Brenna actually sat and watch most of the game...

... but Austin did not. He thought it was his place in life to wander the concessions area and make sure everyone was doing their jobs. He even tried to enter the Budweiser Patio, but the bouncer shooed him away every time he tried. I guess cute and adorable doesn't get you EVERYTHING you want in life.

So the folks at Minute Maid park knew what they were doing when they built this playground extravaganza. Their fatal flaw is putting it outside the confines of the air conditioning. But on second thought, it was probably by design. Hot people = more soda and beer sales.

On the way out of the game, Brenna stopped by the dugout to give the guys a pat on the back. I'm gonna have to keep my eye on that girl.

Sucking it all up

Austin loves to pretend he's vacuuming. He will turn anything into a vacuum.
Finally this weekend he got a "proper" vacuum cleaner.
Thanks Mimi!

Dinner by the Sea

Last night we went down to the Kemah Boardwalk for dinner with Brent's Mom, sister and niece. It was a lovely evening. At Joe's Crab Shack, the girls and Austin enjoyed looking over the deck railing at the water, birds and boats. There was one enormous boat that came by and threw Mardi Gras beads at us. Brenna was memorized by all the different boats and paint schemes. There were even pink and purple boats! Uh oh, I know what's going to be on her Christmas list this year.

We ended the evening with a ride on the Boardwalk Bullet, a wooden roller coaster. The first drop exceeded Brenna's need for speed, so I'm not sure how soon we'll get her back on it.

Come on down we'll show you around!

Bubbles

Finally, she can blow her own bubbles!

He doesn't care if any bubbles get blown as long as you try.
It's a good thing too. He doesn't always arrive with a full wand.

Bubbles - they may burst, but the bond they created will
never be broken.

We discovered quite by accident that Austin can say "bubble". I took out some bubbles from under the sink, and he said it clear as day. Now he and Brenna have their love of bubbles in common. I'm sure it will get them through the rocky times of their teenage years ahead.

MFEO*

Five years ago when we moved to Utah, Mom and I found this dragonfly hook at Lowe's for my kitchen. Sadly, I had to leave it behind since removing it would mean leaving two pretty good size holes in the cabinets. You can not imagine the abject joy I felt when I found that Lowe's still has them in stock. I was so joyful that I bought two - one for the hand towel and one for the dish towel. It's like my life is in perfect balance now. Of course that is until the kids wake up in the morning, and we do life all over again.

*MFEO = made for each other
