Picture Them in the Past

A photographer came to the kids' day care recently and these are some of the photos she took. I think they are wonderful. I don't know how she got Austin to pose for her.

She's always taking things from me.
Doesn't she know the teapot is MINE?!

Check out my toothy grin.

My beautiful girl - growing up so fast.

Intake and Exhaust

This romper came from Granddad and Nana and it cracks me up.
It doesn't mince words.
It just gets straight to the heart of all things baby.

What goes in...

...must come out!

Hook 'em Horns!

Austin all decked out in his "Go Horns" summer attire. Too bad it didn't give the Horns enough luck to beat TCU in the Super Regional. Now we have to go around saying "Rah, Rah TCU", but I guess that's better than "Boomer Sooners". Sigh.

A Grand Old Flag

You're a grand old flag
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave
You're the emblem of
The land I love
The home of the free and the brave

My step-brother, Rob, sent this flag to Brenna from where he is stationed in Iraq. The flag flew over the base "during a period of darkness". We are very honored to have it in our home. This post is dedicated to all the men and women serving overseas to protect this great land of ours. May their endeavors be fruitful and may they come home safely to the families that love them.

Back Off Sista

Austin loves grapes.
Don't get too close Brenna.
I'm warning you. He LOVES his grapes
Yep. You got too close.
Mwah ha ha ha! They're all mine!

Brenna's Stage Debut

Thursday, all of the Kindergarten classes put on a performance to celebrate the closing of their first year in real school. How the teachers got around 80 squirming 6 year-old kids to sit still long enough to learn songs and sing them together, I'll never know. They took us on a journey of the school year month by month. Each month had its own poem and song. Brenna was selected to share the March poem. About a month ago, her lines showed up in her homework folder, and we worked on the lines until she could recite them by heart. Early in the week, Brenna told me they had practiced the program in the gym and she got to speak into a real microphone! After that day, the program and her lines were all she could talk about. On the day of the performance, I had butterflies in my stomach, but Brenna was rock steady and brimming with excitement.

Here are the words to her poem in case you'd like to follow the bouncing ball:
In March, the weather can be a surprise
The season can change right before our eyes
We can fly a kite way up high
Or see a beautiful rainbow in the sky

The wardrobe selection was all Brenna. She wanted to dress up to match her poem. I suggested she wear her rainbow pants underneath a new solid pink dress, but she insisted that her pants AND her dress needed to have the rainbow colors in them. I think this outfit is going to be one that will be stored in my memory banks for years to come.

I leave you with a song to put the zip in your Zipitty Do Da Day.

He Screams for Ice Cream...Literally

If anyone thinks Austin is just rolling through life oblivious to his surroundings, think again. Sunday, Brent went to Arctic Circle for "shakes". In Texas, we call them Blizzards or blended ice cream, but in Utah they call them shakes. Not that you can drink them through a straw like a normal shake...no, you have to eat it with a spoon. Brent likes his with Peanut Butter Cups, and Brenna and I like ours with Heath Bar. Anyway, Brent walks through the door with "shakes" and as soon as Austin saw him, his eyes lit up, and he yelled to make sure Brent knew he wanted a bite or several hundred bites...bites that would go on until the end of time. Oh yes, the boy has discovered the joys of frozen, creamy goodness. Poor Daddy didn't even get to sit in a chair and enjoy his ice cream. He sat at the top of the stairs in the kitchen where Austin stopped him and demanded ice cream.

Don't try and fool me Daddy. I know there's more in that cup.

Oh yeah, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout.
