Brenna's Stage Debut

Thursday, all of the Kindergarten classes put on a performance to celebrate the closing of their first year in real school. How the teachers got around 80 squirming 6 year-old kids to sit still long enough to learn songs and sing them together, I'll never know. They took us on a journey of the school year month by month. Each month had its own poem and song. Brenna was selected to share the March poem. About a month ago, her lines showed up in her homework folder, and we worked on the lines until she could recite them by heart. Early in the week, Brenna told me they had practiced the program in the gym and she got to speak into a real microphone! After that day, the program and her lines were all she could talk about. On the day of the performance, I had butterflies in my stomach, but Brenna was rock steady and brimming with excitement.

Here are the words to her poem in case you'd like to follow the bouncing ball:
In March, the weather can be a surprise
The season can change right before our eyes
We can fly a kite way up high
Or see a beautiful rainbow in the sky

The wardrobe selection was all Brenna. She wanted to dress up to match her poem. I suggested she wear her rainbow pants underneath a new solid pink dress, but she insisted that her pants AND her dress needed to have the rainbow colors in them. I think this outfit is going to be one that will be stored in my memory banks for years to come.

I leave you with a song to put the zip in your Zipitty Do Da Day.
